Step-by-Step Energy Upgrade Process | San Fernando Valley & LA County

Here’s our clear 8-step process for installing and maintaining solar panels, tailored for homeowners in the San Fernando Valley and Los Angeles area

1. Initial Consultation

A solar specialist evaluates your energy needs, roof size, shading, and utility bills to see if solar makes sense for your home.

2. Site Assessment & Design

A technician visits your home to assess your roof's condition, angle, and sun exposure. Then, your custom solar system is designed to maximize efficiency based on local sun patterns and utility rates (LADWP or SCE).

3. Permits & Paperwork

Your installer handles all necessary paperwork, including building permits from the City of Los Angeles or your local jurisdiction, and applications for any rebates, incentives, or net metering programs.

4. Installation

Our professional installers mount the panels, connect the inverter, and wire the system. Most residential systems in the Valley are installed in 1 to 3 days, depending on size and complexity.

5. Inspection & Approval

A city inspector (e.g., from LADBS) inspects the system to ensure it meets local building and electrical codes. Your utility also needs to approve and connect it to the grid.

6. System Activation

Once approved, your system is turned on (also called “Permission to Operate” or PTO). From this point, your solar panels start producing electricity and lowering your bill.

7. Monitoring

Most systems include an app or online portal to track your energy production in real-time. This helps you see how much you're saving and if the system is performing correctly.

8. Maintenance

Solar panels are low-maintenance, but it's smart to: Clean panels 1–2 times per year (especially in dusty Valley areas). Schedule occasional system checks to ensure the inverter and wiring are in good shape. Watch your monitoring app for drops in performance.
